Carlos Alcaraz emphasised the importance of working hard and playing hard as he revealed his love for his getaways to Ibiza.
The Spanish tennis star sealed back-to-back Wimbledon championships at the weekend, defeating icon and seven-time winner Novak Djokovic 6-2 6-2 7-6 (4).
Now, the 21-year-old’s celebrations are in full swing.
His French Open title last month saw him jet off to party island Ibiza, before he returned to prepare for his All England Club victory.
And it turns out he goes to the Spanish hot spot with Tottenham defender and compatriot Sergio Reguilon.
Speaking to Relevo, he said: “Well, we’ve known each other for several years. I knew who he was, he started following me, we talked a little on the phone, and we met at the Mutua Madrid Open 2022 for the first time.
“The first dinner was here, at Wimbledon, when he was here at Tottenham before the tournament started in 2022, and from there we started to get along really well and now he’s one of the closest people I have.”
Left-back Reguilon, born in Madrid, spent last season on loan with Manchester United and Brentford.
He may not have won any trophies recently like Alcaraz, but many footballers make their way to Ibiza in the off-season, including Manchester City’s Jack Grealish and Tottenham’s James Maddison.
Despite some fans questioning whether the partying in between tournaments is a good idea, Alcaraz insists it’s important not to be a ‘slave to tennis’.
And he also believes the trips to Ibiza and time to unwind are key to his success.
He said: “Well, I am very clear that in the end people also work for something. Not just speaking for myself, but in general. People work to allow themselves certain things and then enjoy them with their people.
“I am here living a dream, for me it is crazy to be able to play these types of tournaments, to be able to win them, but I also want to have time for myself.
“I don’t want to feel like a slave to tennis and not have time for myself.
“Those little getaways to Ibiza, two or three nights with friends, to enjoy, to have time to rest, to have time for myself, I think it is fundamental and very necessary to then perform and come back to the court with batteries charged.”
