The No. 17 Texas A&M women’s golf team tied the lowest round in program history with a 16-under 272 at the Chevron Collegiate at the Golf Club of Houston Monday.
The Aggies sit in first place after 36 holes heading into Tuesday’s final round.
“Tomorrow, we have to go out like the scoreboard is 0-0,” Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell said. “The course will play totally different with the wind coming from a different direction. I am proud of our team. They put themselves into a position to learn more about themselves. Vanessa was locked in and focused. She wasn’t even in danger of making a bogey in the first round. Cata was incredible as well. Those two were in complete control and the rest of the team played great too. I am glad to be in the fight with them tomorrow.”
The Aggies played two rounds on Monday and shot 23-under 553, tied for the second-lowest 26-hole score in program history.
Freshman Vanessa Borovilso led the way with a 10-under 134 (67 and 67) to sit in first place on the player leaderboard. Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio shot 8-under 136 (70 and 66) and is tied for second place.
Texas A&M (-23) leads TCU (-19) by four strokes. The Aggies will play the final round at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
