As every diehard NFL fan is aware, ESPN’s Adam Schefter knows things. And sometimes when he says something, you have to read between the lines.

So when Schefter said Tuesday on The Pat McAfee Show that both Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn “are gonna get jobs this cycle,” it has to be taken seriously.

It’s not a shock that both Johnson and Glenn are heavily in demand. Ever since both assistants got head coach interviews last offseason and then ended up returning to the Lions, the feeling has been it was a matter of time before they earned a promotion.

Nearly every team has been interested in talking to both coaches and on Monday, the Dallas Cowboys created another opening when they moved on from Mike McCarthy, who is himself in demand again.

Both Glenn and Johnson interviewed with the Las Vegas Raiders, Jacksonville Jaguars and Chicago Bears, while Glenn interviewed with the New Orleans Saints and New York Jets as well while Johnson interviewed with the Patriots before they made the first move of the hiring cycle by landing Mike Vrabel.

With the Cowboys now in the mix as well, there are still six teams looking for new head coaches.

Schefter also added that Glenn is “squarely in the mix” for the Jets’ head coach position.

“I think that there’s every possibility and probably likelihood that the Lions are gonna be losing both their coordinators in this cycle,” Schefter said. “I’d be really surprised if both of them don’t come out of this with head coaching jobs.”

The Lions’ coordinators now can’t take part in any more interviews until the bye week between the Super Bowl if they make it that far or be hired until after the team is eliminated from the playoffs or win the Super Bowl.

That could make things tough for the Cowboys, who waited to move on from McCarthy and missed the opportunity to interview Glenn or Johnson during the team’s bye week.

However, Schefter doesn’t seem to think that’ll have an impact on either of the aspiring head coaches, indicating that he thinks it’s a matter of when, not if the Lions will have to replace their coordinators.
