Vijayawada: The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) unveiled plans to construct the largest cricket stadium in India, with a seating capacity of 1.25 lakh spectators, surpassing the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
ACA president and Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni) announced that 60 acres of land in Amaravati has been sought from state govt for this ambitious project.
In a recent interaction with the media, Chinni emphasised that the project would form part of a larger sports city planned on 200 acres in Amaravati. Financial assistance will be sought from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), while some funds will be raised locally. “This stadium will not only redefine cricket infrastructure in the country but also put Amaravati on the global sporting map,” he remarked.
In addition to the stadium, ACA plans to bid to hos the 2029 National Games in Amaravati. Sivanath also revealed that three dedicated cricket academies will be established in North Coastal AP, Vijayawada, and Rayalaseema. Former Indian cricketers Mithali Raj and Robin Singh will oversee training at these academies.
The ACA is also modernising the Visakhapatnam Stadium with state-of-the-art facilities to host Indian Premier League (IPL) matches.
Aiming to elevate local talent, Chinni expressed confidence in seeing at least 15 players from Andhra Pradesh making it to the IPL within the next two years.
