Pakistan cricket has been in the news for all the wrong reasons, yet again!
The Asian giants continue to be in a state of uncertainty after Jason Gillespie resigned as Pakistan’s Test coach. The 49-year-old quit his job within eight months, being appointed for the role earlier this year.

Pakistan looked like moving on from their ODI World Cup 2023 fiasco in November last year, when they announced exciting appointments in April 2024. Along with Gillespie, Gary Kirsten, India’s 2011 ODI World Cup-winning coach, took over the white-ball team as head coach. However, the Protean’s time was up in October – earlier than that of Gillespie.
Aqib Javed – interim coach for ODI and T20I formats – will now take over as all-format coach on an interim basis. Meanwhile, former Pakistan international Mohammad Hafeez has made his emotions public over PCB’s treatment of the outgoing Australian.
While there is no official confirmation to this, it is widely reported that Gillespie resigned from his role because of growing differences with the PCB.
Interestingly, Hafeez was the defacto coach of Pakistan after the forgetful ODI WC campaign last year. However, he was relieved off his duties only a few months later.

Hafeez called Pakistan cricket an ‘absolute circus’, the day PCB parted ways with Gillespie. A host of critics in Pakistan, former cricketers included, have raised their eyebrows over ambition of the board amidst a battle with ICC over the hosting rights of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Javed will lead Pakistan in the CT 2025, and will start his assignment from the tour of South Africa.
