New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers thinks he’d like to return for the 2025 season, he told reporters on Wednesday.
The 40-year-old Rodgers, who has one year left on his contract, is enduring a disappointing season with the 3-7 Jets. The season’s low point occurred last Sunday when New York lost 31-6 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
Rodgers has been below average compared to other quarterbacks. He ranks 23rd out of 34 qualifiers in quarterback rating and 25th in QBR, per Pro Football Reference. Rodgers’ 62.4 percent completion rate also ranks 29th, and his 6.4 yards per attempt are 25th.
Rodgers, of course, could once lay claim to being one of the NFL’s greatest quarterbacks, if not the best. He’s a four-time NFL MVP, four-time first-team All-Pro and 10-time Pro Bowler who led the Green Bay Packers to 11 postseasons and a Super Bowl XLV title.
Expectations were great for Rodgers and the Jets after they acquired him from the Packers in an April 2023 trade. Unfortunately, Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles minutes into his debut with the team in Week 1 last season against the Buffalo Bills, and he missed the entire campaign.
The Jets still had high hopes this year after Rodgers’ return, but the team has stumbled to last place in the AFC East. New York fired head coach Robert Saleh after a 2-3 start (20-36 overall since 2021), and the Jets did acquire an old Rodgers teammate in wide receiver Davante Adams. However, neither move has gotten the team going.
So the ball is pretty much in Rodgers’ court for 2025. In the meantime, the Jets will ride out the season, hoping for a second-half miracle to catapult the team into the playoffs. Up next is a home date with the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
