It’s hard to imagine the Philadelphia 76ers turning down additional talent for the right price, especially after the New York Knicks’ latest move.
The Knicks acquiring star big man Karl-Anthony Towns from the Minnesota Timberwolves may have put some unexpected pressure on team president Daryl Morey and the Sixers’ front office. If Morey decides to further explore trade opportunities, Utah Jazz guard Collin Sexton is one name to check out.
FanSided’s Elijah Hamilton believes that trading for Sexton could allow them to leapfrog the Knicks.
“For starters, they could send several key role players to the 76ers in return for draft picks, and younger players, in particular, who could benefit from finding a new home is Collin Sexton,” Hamilton wrote.
Sexton, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound guard, is one of the league’s most active defenders while providing efficient scoring on offense. He averaged 18.7 points on 48.7% shooting last season, regularly wreaking havoc for the other team’s backcourt.
“Sexton, throughout his NBA career, has proven to be a dynamic scorer off the bench, in some cases a spark plug for the Jazz offense last year,” Hamilton continued. “He can instantly replicate that in Philly, as he would serve as someone who puts up points off the 76ers off the bench.”
Sexton’s role would of course be much decreased in Philadelphia, considering their pool of talent in the guard room. However, if winning a championship holds priority for the 25-year-old, going after the $70 million spark plug makes sense.
