JOLIET — Mayor Terry D’Arcy, city manager Beth Beatty and other top city of Joliet officials are starting off 2025 with a groundbreaking ceremony that aims to create 75 new jobs for Joliet.
According to Tuesday’s announcement from Arcadia Cold Storage & Logistics, representatives of the City of Joliet, representatives from the office of Joliet State Senator Rachael Ventura, the CEO; Co-Founder of Arcadia Cold Storage and various project partners, will gather at 251 East Millsdale Road on Thursday morning for a new construction groundbreaking ceremony.
Thursday’s event is not open to the public.
According to the company’s media advisory, “Arcadia Cold specializes in providing third-party handling, storage, distribution, and value-added services to the food industry. We are on a mission to design and deploy modern facilities and provide innovative solutions through the practical application of technology, creating meaningful value for our customers while helping them meet their strategic objectives –establishing The New Age of cold chain.”
In November 2023, Joliet Patch published a story forecasting the construction of the future cold storage facility in a story headlined: “NorthPoint Celebrates ‘Superlative’ Construction Year In Joliet.”
In a November 2021 vote of 6-2, the Joliet Council approved annexation plans to allow NorthPoint to proceed along the city’s southern boundary near the Stone City VFW Hall. Only Bettye Gavin and Mike Turk voted against it. NorthPoint Joliet was endorsed by U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, Congressman Bobby Rush, Congresswoman Robin Kelly and Congressman Adam Kinzinger.
