The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Commercial Gambling Unit recently identified violations at 26 local businesses in the City of Rome that operate Coin-Operated Amusement Machines (COAM). Additionally, seven businesses in Floyd County were found to be in violation. These violations stemmed from improper cash payouts. Businesses were issued citations for violations and machines were subsequently disabled.
Stores busted included the Armuchee Quick Stop, Victor’s Food and Grocery, Phillips 76 Son Martha Berry Blvd, Sabor Latino, and Ricks Food Mart.
This investigation, which involved the use of informants and undercover operations, is the largest of its kind to date in the state. The Rome Police Department fully supported the GBI throughout this operation and will act against all identified violations.
The Rome Police Department is committed to ensuring that COAM regulations are followed and will continue monitoring local businesses in the future. This ongoing investigation may include the use of undercover officers and informants to ensure compliance.
