The Ducks might have scored five touchdowns in this game, but it was the defense that was the story. Oregon’s secondary was incredible, allowing freshman quarterback Ryan Browne to complete just 9-of-19 passes for 93 yards on the night. While Purdue found some success running the ball — more on that later — they went just 4-for-12 on 3rd downs, and 0-for-3 on 4th downs.
I was most impressed with Matayo Uiagalelei — who won our Ducks Wire Player of the Game Award — and Teitum Tuioti, who stepped up in a major way on Friday. Tuioti finished with a team-high six tackles and one tackle for loss, while Uiagalelei had three tackles, two tackles for loss, and one sack.
While Purdue’s offense may not be considered dominant, by any stretch, they were able to put up 49 points on No. 22 Illinois last week. The Ducks face the Fighting Illini a week from now, so it was good to see this defense step up in a major way against the Boilermakers.
