The latest company from outside traditional golf circles getting in on the popularity of America’s “largest growing sport”: 7-Eleven.
Yes, the convenience retailer perhaps best known for the Slurpee and Big Gulp, has unveiled its new golf collection, “The Always Open, Open.” Available only on the company’s online merchandise store, it includes a golf-themed apparel line as well as a limited run of accesories (through a partnership with Sunday Golf Gear) that includes a vegan leather 7-Eleven stand bag, head covers and more.
This is actually the second golf collection from 7-Eleven, which introduced a smaller assortment of offerings in its line known as “The Convenience Store” a year ago, with some items selling out within a few days.
“Following the incredible response to last year’s golf collection, we’ve taken everything that customers loved about that drop and kicked it up a notch with new and unique pieces this year,” said 7-Eleven Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing and Sustainability Officer Marissa Jarratt. “This line was created for fashion and golf enthusiasts alike, taking the evolving appeal of golf culture and intersecting it with fashion trends to celebrate summer, sports and the joy of convenience.”
Other brands many consumers wouldn’t intuitively connect with golf apparel — among them Lee and DraftKings — have also been trying to seize on the sport’s positive momentum with recent ventures into the golf apparel space. More rounds of golf were played last year at U.S. courses than at any time in history, according to the National Golf Foundation, and 2024 play is running ahead of that pace.
7-Eleven’s “Always Open, Open” collection features fairway fashions including polos, windbreakers, sweater vests, warm-up jackets, retro button-ups, and laid-back T-shirts in addition to caps, visors and bucket hats.
There are also branded ball markers, golf towels, divot tools and tees, but the highlight has to be the ultra-lightweight, retro golf bag with the 7-Eleven branding. The company teamed with Sunday Golf on the El Camino stand bag as well as a variety of other premium, limited edition items like the custom Big Frosty cooler bag.
So, which non-traditional golf company will be next to get a piece of golf’s buzz?
