With the start of the 2024-2025 women’s college basketball season coming right around the corner, here are six rivalry games you don’t want to miss this regular season. 

Tennessee vs. UConn

This rivalry defined women’s college basketball in the late 1990s and early 2000s, featuring legendary coaches Pat Summitt and Geno Auriemma. They faced off in multiple national championship games and have the most titles in women’s college basketball. UConn leads the series 16-9, but many games were closely contested, showcasing the talent and intensity of both programs. UConn and Tennessee will clash this season on Feb. 6, 2025. 

Notre Dame vs. UConn 

This rivalry started to gain traction in the 2010s, with several memorable matchups, including the 2013 championship game, where Notre Dame seated UConn 79-58. The Huskies and Fighting Irish have met in the NCAA tournament multiple times, often in high-stakes situations, fueling the competitive fire. UConn leads the all-time series, but Notre Dame’s success in critical games adds intrigue and excitement. We’ll get a taste of this historic battle, on Dec. 12, 2024. 

LSU vs. South Carolina

South Carolina and LSU are two emerging powerhouses. Both programs have risen to prominence in the SEC, with fierce battles that showcase top talent. In the past three years, South Carolina won in 2022 and 2024 while LSU won its first national title in 2023, elevating the rivalry’s stakes and profile. The intensity of their games often leads to thrilling finishes, drawing significant fan attention. This showdown between the past two national champions is on Jan. 23, 2025.

UCLA vs. USC

The Battle of LA is always showtime basketball. Last year alone, each matchup was decided by single digits and both teams met to clash in the final Pac-12 championship. Their battles always have featured standout players and intense moments, drawing large crowds… and even stardom from around the City of Angels. The first matchup between these two teams is on Feb. 13, 2025. 

Iowa vs Iowa State 

The Cy-Hawk Series represents one of the most significant rivalries in Iowa, bringing together two major programs in a fierce competition that fuels state pride and fan engagement. This rivalry has a long-standing history in both men’s and women’s sports, creating a sense of tradition that enriches the college experience for athletes and fans alike. This in-state clash is scheduled for Dec. 11, 2024. 

Texas vs Oklahoma 

The Red River Rivalry is a classic staple in women’s college basketball. Always expect to see a closely contested matchup when these two face off. But this year and beyond, this matchup will have a new twist, as Big 12 foes become SEC rivals, with Texas and Oklahoma moving conferences. Despite this realignment, the intensity of this historic battle will always remain the same. The first of this Big 12 turned SEC matchup is set for Jan. 2, 2025.
