WILDWOOD, NJ — Five people were injured, including two who remain hospitalized as of Wednesday afternoon, after a golf cart collision at Tuesday’s National Night Out celebration in Wildwood, local police said.
As part of the annual event at Fox Park, police operate a simulated impaired driving low speed golf cart course, according to information from Wildwood police. They have done so for the past 20 years.
“Tragically, during one of the course operations, a speed governed golf cart being operated by a juvenile attendee and a Wildwood Police Officer left the enclosed course and struck several individuals,” police said.

As the Wildwood Fire Department was already on-site for the event, they immediately began to treat the five people who were injured, police said. Four adults and one child were taken to Cape Regional Medical Center, police said.
Three of those people have already been treated and released, police said, but as of 3 p.m. Wednesday two remained hospitalized due to their injuries.

“National Night Out, is at its core, a night of building police and community partnership. We look forward to the event each year and many of our officers along with their families are in attendance,” police said. “This tragic incident is disconcerting to the entire City of Wildwood Police Department, and we would like to offer our sincere thoughts and prayers to the injured individuals.”
