With the fourth new course at Cabot Citrus Farms — Roost — now officially open for resort play in Florida, attention turns to other notable public golf offerings set to debut in 2025.

New course development has seen a slight uptick within the U.S. in recent years, with the National Golf Foundation reporting more than 120 new golf course projects under construction or in planning – the highest total in more than a decade and more than double the pre-pandemic average.

Here are five of the most anticipated new public golf experiences coming in 2025:

The Dozen at Arcadia Bluffs (Michigan)

The newest addition to northern Michigan’s renowned Arcadia Bluffs is aptly named The Dozen – a 12-hole course featuring two distinct 6-hole loops, each with three par-3s and three par-4s. Set to open in July 2025, this innovative layout is situated on a 160-acre parcel about 1.5 miles from the facility’s existing Bluffs and South courses. The property showcases sweeping views and will be complemented by four guest cottages, a short-iron practice facility, and a day-style clubhouse. The Dozen represents a creative approach to course design that caters to modern golfers seeking unique, time-flexible playing options.

Cliffhangers at Big Cedar Lodge (Missouri)

Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Ozark Mountains, Cliffhangers will be Big Cedar Lodge’s third short course when it opens in summer 2025. Designed by resort founder Johnny Morris (also the founder of Bass Pro Shops) and his son John Paul, this wild 18-hole par-3 course has holes ranging from 60 to 165 yards draped across 50 acres of stunning cliffside terrain. Adjacent to the Tiger Woods-designed Payne’s Valley course, Cliffhangers features approximately 400 feet of vertical descent, severely sloped greens, waterfall views, and loads of exposed rock. The course continues Big Cedar’s tradition of creating memorable golf experiences that harmonize with the natural landscape.

Scarecrow at Gamble Sands (Washington)

Scheduled to debut in August, Scarecrow represents architect David McLay Kidd’s third course at this destination in eastern Washington. The name pays homage to the sentinels watching over neighboring apple and cherry orchards, while the course itself transforms a twisted saddle of ridgeline and rolling terrain into what promises to be another memorable layout. The property’s spectacular views of the Columbia River Valley provide a stunning backdrop for Kidd’s design, which follows his successful work on the original Gamble Sands course – making this one of very few golf destinations to feature three or more courses from the same architect.

The Keep at McLemore (Georgia)

Perched atop Lookout Mountain in northwest Georgia, The Keep takes its name from the majestic cliffside views reminiscent of Europe’s historic castles. This Bill Bergin and Rees Jones design, set to officially open in 2025, offers dramatic holes situated 1,000 feet above McLemore Cove’s valley floor. While McLemore operates as a member club, the course will be accessible to guests staying at the new Cloudland at McLemore Resort, part of the Curio Collection by Hilton. The Keep promises to complement the existing course while offering its own unique mountain golf experience with breathtaking vistas.

Bella Ridge Golf Club (Colorado)

Rising from the site of a former dairy farm in Johnstown, Colorado, Bella Ridge Golf Club represents a unique transformation of agricultural land into a premium public golf facility. The Podtburg family, which operated one of its dairy operations on the property since 1995, recognized the land’s natural potential for golf with its elevation changes and picturesque views of Longs Peak. The Podtburg family has a shared passion for golf and the idea for a course in the area had first been proposed well over a decade ago, recognizing the opportunity to create something special and a lack of golf in the area. Beyond golf, Bella Ridge aims to become a community hub, offering food and beverage options and serving as an event venue, while plans for a future upscale residential community adds another dimension to the project.
