Michigan State basketball is riding high after a successful Maui trip, going 2-1 with wins over Colorado and North Carolina, as well as a dominant performance in the Big Ten opener at Minnesota, dominating the Golden Gophers 90-72.
Tom Izzo has led this team to a 7-2 start to the year which is the best start since 2021-22 when the Spartans were actually 14-2 and 5-0 in the Big Ten before struggling the rest of the way and going 20-11 and 11-9 in conference action. This team needs to avoid that same February lull (that team went 3-5 in February that year.
Now the Spartans head back home to take on a tough Nebraska team that’s 6-1 on the year with a win over then-No. 14 Creighton but a loss to Saint Mary’s. This is the Cornhuskers’ first Big Ten game.
Let’s get bold.
Remember the North Carolina game to end the Maui Invitational for Michigan State? The Spartans saw six different players score in double figures. That’s almost unheard of nowadays in college hoops, but Michigan State will flirt with that number again on Saturday.
In the starting lineup, we’ll see Jaden Akins and Jaxon Kohler score over 10 and off the bench, it’ll be Frankie Fidler, Coen Carr, and Xavier Booker scoring in double figures. Jase Richardson will also be flirting with 10 points as well as Tre Holloman but I could see both coming a bucket short.
With five guys scoring at least 10, Michigan State should be in a good spot to win.
