Pennsylvania Derby & Cotillion Day, the biggest day in Pennsylvania thoroughbred racing, will take place at Parx Racing in Bensalem on Saturday, Sept. 21. The day features 11 stakes races and three non-stakes races, offering more than $3.65 million in total purse money.
Gates open at 10 a.m. and the first post is at 11:35 a.m. Two of the day’s featured races, the Pennsylvania Derby and the Cotillion Stakes, are each $1 million Grade I stakes races that typically serve as a showcase for high-caliber three-year-old thoroughbreds seeking to secure a spot in the Breeders’ Cup World Championship in November. The Grade II Gallant Bob, a $400,000 stakes race for three-year-olds, is another feature of the event.
In addition to the thrill of horse racing, attendees can enjoy live music from local band Bigg Romeo, a performance by the Mummers Uptown String Band, food and drink specials and souvenir swag, including a commemorative hat giveaway while supplies last. Pony rides and face painting will also be available.
The Pennsylvania Horse Racing Association will be on-site at the event with Rody ponies for kids, merchandise, sweepstakes and wagering support. Free Past Performances for the day’s full race card will be available at pennhorseracing.com/wager-warriors/.
NBC Sports Philadelphia will be broadcasting live from Pennsylvania Derby & Cotillion Day from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
In a milestone partnership, Parx Racing will collaborate with Presque Isle Downs in Erie to offer the first-ever multi-race wager between the two tracks. The Pennsylvania Pick 4 and Keystone Daily Double are two new betting options for horse racing fans that debuted on Sept. 20 to be available for The Masters at PID and Pennsylvania Derby Day at Parx. Bets can be placed via any online horse wagering platform, including Twinspires and Phonebet.
