It’s a saying that is both Sonic the Hedgehog’s most famous line and the mindset every draft prospect at the 2025 NFL combine will embrace this week.

Of the NFL combine’s annual variety of athletic tests, nothing draws in more eyes and creates bigger headlines than the 40-yard dash. It’s the drill that gives NFL hopefuls the best chance to show off their pure speed, something that – spoiler alert – matters a lot at the pro level.

As the 2025 NFL combine gets underway, USA TODAY Sports is tracking all of the fastest 40-yard dash times recorded this year. Fans can check out which players were the fastest in each position group as well as the overall rankings of the fastest prospects in 2025.

What is the NFL combine 40-yard dash record?

Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy set an NFL combine record in the 40-yard dash last year with a time of 4.21 seconds.

Worthy’s run broke the record fellow wide receiver John Ross III set at the 2017 NFL combine: 4.22 seconds. Ross went on to be drafted with the ninth overall pick by the Bengals in 2017, and the Chiefs traded up to draft Worthy with the 28th overall pick last year.
