The 2025 quarterback class has been perceived as weak by many NFL teams and fans around the league. That being said, it looks like Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are projected to be taken at the top of the first round this year. Below, I’ll be looking at where Ward stacks up in my 2025 dynasty rookie rankings based on his profile.
Coming into the 2024 season, not many expected Ward to be one of the best quarterbacks in college football. As a senior, this was Ward’s first time playing in the ACC as he had just transferred from Washington State. Ward played well as a Junior, throwing for 3,736 yards, 25 touchdowns and seven interceptions. When making the jump to Miami, Ward got even better. In his 2024 season, Ward threw for 4,313 yards, 39 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
My main issue is that Ward had 10 interceptions in 2021 and nine in 2022. Even though he was able to improve, he still makes way too many dangerous throws. When you turn on the tape, you’ll consistently see Ward putting the ball into harm’s way a few times a game. In college, Ward’s unreal arm talent can get these passes completed or, at worst, knocked away. Once he gets to the NFL, these dangerous throws will result in interceptions at a high rate.
Regarding the 2025 NFL Draft, I would be shocked if Ward isn’t a top-five pick. He’s a great talent, of course, but it has more to do with the quarterback scarcity right now. According to NFL Mock Draft Database, Ward has an overall rank of first overall. That seems to be the consensus right now and would help Ward’s dynasty value.
By being the first overall pick, Ward will have an extensive lease, propping up his dynasty value. The Tennessee Titans aren’t an ideal landing spot by any means, but I wouldn’t say it’s detrimental to Ward’s career.
With Ward, I view him as a player with a very high ceiling but a low floor. For that reason, Ward is my QB2 in Superflex 2025 dynasty rookie rankings. In a format that relies so heavily on quarterback, I’m not willing to take the risk. In a 1QB format, however, Ward is my QB1. With quarterbacks having a lower value, you need to find upside in order to make a difference.
