If there’s any possible way to improve the Porsche 911, considered by many to be the ultimate sports car, it would be adding two more doors and two additional sport seats so everyone gets to tag along. That’s the mission of the Porsche Panamera, a four door, four passenger sports car that brings 2+ 2 seating and more creature comforts to the performance engineering of the Porsche 911.
For 2024, Porsche updated the Panamera, now in its 3rd generation, with more electric powertrain options, more overall horsepower, more trim options and more standard features. For 2025 Porsche added two new trims: A Turbo S E Hybrid and a GTS model. These models added to the Panamera’s prowess of 0-60 acceleration time, which Porsche says has been reduced to 2.8 seconds in the S E-Hybrid.
Inside and out, Porsche also updated the look and function of the Panamera, though these changes are more subtle. The redesigned model still looks and feels like the classic Panamera: it’s sleek, sculpted, luxury filled but still unapologetically a sports car.
This is a hallmark of Porsche: options. Buyers can choose interior details and features, customize the look of upholstery and can even choose a unique exterior color. The choices narrow from there with seven trims to choose from, including four hybrid models that add more power and up to 50 miles of all-electric driving range.
They are: Porsche Panamera, priced from $102,800 and generating 348 hp; Panamera 4, priced from $109,800 and also with 348 hp output; Panamera 4 E-Hybrid, priced from $115,500 and generating 463 hp; Panamera 4 S E-Hybrid, priced from $126,800 and producing 536 hp; Panamera GTS, priced from $154,200 and producing 493 hp; Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid, priced from $191,000 and generating 512 hp; and the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, priced from $226,500 with an output of 771 hp. Our Panamera 4 test model, equipped with options including head up display, passenger display and heated and vented front and rear seats, came in at $142,240.
In addition to the re-tooled V6 and V8 engines, Porsche improved the air suspension system and made it standard. The system is designed to ‘absorb’ bumps on the road. Buyers who want a more dynamic experience can opt for Porsche’s Active Ride suspension which is designed to optimize wheel grip and keep the body of the Panamera level even when rounding a tight curve or braking hard.
Buyers can also opt for rear wheel steering and top of the line GTS and S E-Hybrid models are equipped with high performance brakes. All models are equipped with a drive mode switch on the steering wheel that allows the driver to quickly flip through Normal, Sport and Sport+ modes. The addition of the Sport Chrono package further enhances the customization of the drive experience.
Gone is the lever gear shifter from the center console, which is now an angled panel for cup holders and climate controls. The gear selector has been moved to the dashboard just to the right of the steering wheel, similar to the gear selector in the Porsche Taycan. This move allows for a cleaner, more functional center console.
Also gone are the physical gauges in front of the driver. A new 10.9-inch digital driver display allows the driver a view of more data and to customize the view.
All passengers can become a co-pilot with a view of all performance metrics, or help out by setting navigation, music and more via a front passenger screen on the dashboard and a rear passenger screen between the rear seats.
Porsche doesn’t skimp on luxuries for this touring-quality sports car. In addition to full leather surrounds on the center console and dashboard, Porsche has updated Apple CarPlay with even more function: the phone-based system can also operate the car’s climate and ambient lighting, something that in the past could only be accessed via the native built-in voice assistance or touch screen system.
Another thing that Apple CarPlay can do is turn on the massage seats, which can be optioned for both the front and rear seats.
With a perfect 50/50 weight balance, seat time in the Porsche Panamera is delightful, even in the entry level model. There’s nothing shy about 348 hp for zipping around on local parkways or getting quickly ahead on the on-ramp. Braking is quick and smooth and the steering wheel feels natural in the driver’s hands.
The Panamera’s performance bucket seats in the front and rear are also perfectly designed for this sports sedan: the driver is ideally situated for optimal performance and passengers will feel every bit of power without being tossed around. Even if it’s just cruising to the after-school pickup lane or heading out of town for a long weekend with the kids, everyone will feel the thrill of Porsche in sports sedan.
