In professional golf, the Masters Tournament title is one of the most coveted, if not the most coveted. Most players consider it a career milestone just to play in it, and those who have won it generally consider it the pinnacle of their careers.

But apparently not Bubba Watson.

The 2-time major champion recently claimed that what he is doing at LIV Golf is the biggest achievement of his career.

“This [referring to LIV Golf] is the greatest thing I’ve ever done in golf”: Watson told Fox Sports in an exclusive interview.

Watson explained that the team component that characterizes LIV Golf has won him over. In his opinion, golf is moving in a direction where the team format is becoming more relevant.

“Two of the biggest events I’ve ever played in are the Ryder Cup and the Presidents Cup, and both are team events,” Watson said. “So we know it. We might not want to embrace it in the United States yet, but the world sees it.”

“The world’s embracing it. It’s like anything, it takes time to make change and make history. I said a couple years ago I didn’t want to be left behind. And I think golf is going this direction.”

Watson had a successful career in professional golf long before LIV Golf. Between 2010 and 2018, he won 12 PGA Tour events, including two Masters Tournaments (2012, 2014). He also played in four Ryder Cups and two Presidents Cups.

In 2022, he joined LIV Golf as a player and captain/team owner. This was a huge turnaround in his career, as it was not just a change of course, but a completely different dynamic.

“It’s not just golf,” Whatson explained. “[We had] to choose what color schemes we want, what clothes we want. Are we going to have a team dinner and talk about things? How many practice rounds? Interviews like this. That’s what the captains were doing.”

In terms of sporting results alone, his time in the Saudi-backed league has had more lows than highs. In the last two seasons, he participated in 26 tournaments with only one top 10 finish (10th, 2023 event in Tulsa). He was relegated in 2024 and returned to the team via direct hire. In other words, he rehired himself as team captain.

His team, RangeGoat GC, had some good results in 2023, including a win, thanks in large part to having Talor Gooch, the eventual individual champion of the season, on the roster. After surprisingly trading Gooch, the team only managed two top-3 finishes in 2024.

However, those results have not stopped Watson from continuing to cash in. A study by National Club Golfer shows that the two-time Masters champion has earned $8,806,283 to date since joining LIV Golf.
