A WARN notice issued by Macy’s earlier this month confirms 117 people will lose their jobs when the department store chain closes its Sterling Heights location in March. The notice, dated for Jan. 9 says the job eliminations will take place between March 18 and March 31, 2025 and will be permanent.
The store itself — located at the Lakeside Mall — is expected to close on March 18. Employees currently working at the Sterling Heights store are expected to receive information about benefits available to them, as well as information on opportunities to transfer to open positions in nearby Macy’s locations, the WARN notice says.
None of the employees affected by the closure are represented by a union.

The closures are part of the company’s long-term plans to to build sustainable growth for the struggling retail chain. Macy’s previously announced plans to close approximately 150 stores nationwide in the coming years while also investing in 350 stores through fiscal year 2026.
So far, 66 store closures have been announced for the start of 2025, but it is unknown when the company will announce other store closures.
