KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A Kansas City man has been charged in accordance with Blair’s Law after shots were fired into the air near the Bannister Square Shopping Center.
Records filed with the Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court on Saturday, Nov. 23, indicate that Quindarius Sharkey, 25, of Kansas City, has been charged in connection to Blair’s Law.
A probable cause statement filed by the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department revealed that just before 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20, emergency crews were called to the area of E. Bannister Rd. and Drury Ave. with reports of a man shooting a firearm into the air.
As law enforcement officials began to canvas the area, they said they found Sharkey, who refused to obey any of their commands and attempted to run. He ran across the roadway and was nearly hit by several vehicles before he made it to a wooded area near the Bannister Square Shopping Center.
Investigators indicated that Sharkey was found hiding in a culvert where he refused to come out. Ultimately, bean bag rounds were fired which forced Sharkey to comply. Once in custody, Sharkey admitted to officers he had been intoxicated and vomited a short while later.
KCPD noted that a security camera at a nearby Phillips 66 caught the incident on the footage.
The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office also revealed that the case would meet the requirements for a state-level misdemeanor Blair’s Law charge. He has also been charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm and could spend up to 1 year in prison with a $2,000 fine.
As of Saturday, Sharkey remains behind bars on a $4,900 bond. A criminal setting hearing has been set for 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5. No further information has been released.
